Planting Beans!

The beans that we planted in class have grown!

We went to the school garden and had to do a little bit of weeding.
We were pros this time!

Mr Durbin helped us plant our beans in the school garden.

We can't wait to see them grow!

Cricket Skills

Last Monday we went to play Cricket. We played 'Snowball' tag for a warm up for our body. We went into groups they were called Macaroni and Cheese. I was in Cheese and Chloe was in Macaroni. Cheese was batting first and Macaroni was fielding. Before we played we did some smashing moves. We whacked the ball. We also threw it in the air and caught it when it came down. It was fun batting and fielding. I'm sure everyone had a great time.

Term 4 Assembly Item

Yesterday we shared a video about our Passions and performed a song called "I believe."
Room 11 did an amazing job, singing proud and supporting their classmate Chloe who sang solo for the first time in front of an audience. Well done everyone! You all looked beautiful and did Mrs V very proud.

See the videos below! (note: the second video unfortunately turns sideways so is a bit harder to watch.)

Hello Term 4!

We had an awesome first week back to school and we are looking forward to the rest of the term! Here we are doing Buzz groups out in the sunshine, sharing our news.

We are learning about things that GROW. Mr. Durbin gave us some seeds and we chose which one we wanted to plant and watch grow in the class.

We are excited to start up our very own worm bin at Stanley Ave.
Miss B from Zero Waste came in and taught us about worms and gave us some tasks so we remember how to use the worm bin appropriately.

Country Research

At the end of last term Room 11 did some research on different countries.

They worked with a buddy to find out information and present this on a poster.

Here are some of the things they shared about the country they did research on:

Flag
Capital city
Continent it is in
Population
Food they eat
Sports they play

On the last day of term, Room 11 skyped Mrs Valencia's Mum and asked her questions about the Philippines!

We found out that it is very hot in the Philippines and there are lots of people!
A popular sport is Basketball but they play other sports too like Volleyball.

Exciting writing

Some of our students have been working on adding detail to their writing. Mrs V gave four boring sentences and the challenge was to add or change words to make it more exciting.

The original...
She heard a knock on the door.
She got out of her seat.
She went to the door.
She opened it and hugged her Nana.

Here is an example of the changes!
She heard a loud knock on the big, cranky door.
She jumped out of her chair.
She jogged to the door.
She opened the wobbly door and hugged her Nana tightly.

By Layla and Casey

The original...
He stopped the car.
He opened the door.
He yelled at the dog.
The dog wouldn't move.

Changes:
He pulled over in fright.
He yanked the door open.
He screamed at the naughty dog.
The dog was as still as a statue.

Skittle Science

"Today we did skittle science. I know what you're thinking, what is skittle science? Well, Skittle science is when you do science with skittles.
So we were parked up and then we got a bowl and put 4 different coloured skittles in the bowl and put water in too. Then the real magic happened, it started to dissolve, it was amazing!"

"I predicted that the skittles were going to change colours. Our observation was the skittles are changing colours and when you wobble the bowl it makes the skittles colours mix together."

"Some of the skittles' S came off and floated, it was amazing."

Thanks PTA for a great night!

Busy Term 3!

Every Monday and Friday we have Buzz groups which allows students to share what they have been up to outside of school. Each group has a leader and one person from each group shares back to the whole class. We know how to be good listeners and a good audience as well as a proud presenter!

Here are some of us being amazing self-managers, completing mini book reports during our Reading time.

Chrome books?? Yes! Room 11 now have six of their very own chrome books. A huge thank you to the PTA for funding these for the junior syndicate. We love them!

CROSS COUNTRY was an absolute success which took place on Wednesday.
Click on the link below to see an awesome video of some photos from the event.

Don't miss a thing! Remember our weekly newsletters are uploaded onto our school website. Stay informed and updated with all that is happening at Stanley Avenue School. Click the link below to see our school newsletters.

Learning with Room 8

We were lucky to have the other Year 2 and 3 class join us as we learnt about the Olympics. We watched some informative videos that shared the different sports and events that take place at the Olympics and a trailer for the Rio Olympics 2016. We had a lot of great discussions and questions come from it.

This time, Cross Country! We learnt about the importance of warming up before and after a run and some ways to stretch your different leg muscles.
Room 8 and 11 did a great job putting these to practice.

Reminder: Cross Country is this Wednesday 17th August, 1pm at Boyd Park!

Bruce Potter Visit!

Yesterday we had a visit from Bruce Potter, an Author and Illustrator from New Zealand. He demonstrated how we can 'doodle' and together with Room 8, 11 and 13 created a very wacky character!

Here are some things that Room 11 took away from his one hour visit:

·      Use your imagination
·      You can create your own drawing
·      You can make a book from a drawing
·      You can do anything want – there are NO RULES!
·      Mr Potter adds things onto his picture
·      He uses detail
·      Big eyes and big smile = likeable character (happy)
·      ‘Pac-man’ in the eye
·      Draw a shadow when someone is standing on the ground

We went back to class and decided to create our own doodles! Remembering all the things that we learnt from Mr Potter. We will post the finished products soon, so watch this space! :)

Welcome back! Term 3 is here

A big welcome to these four students! Calais, Joe, Legend and Hayley have come from Room 7 and will be part of the Room 11 team for the rest of the year. :)

Here are some snapshots of children teaching the rest of the class different Maths activities and games.

We are learning about verbs. We read a poem that had lots of action words.
Here are Imogen and Chloe sharing their version of the poem!
